Product Description
Amazon.co.uk Review
There's a worrying mystique which has grown up around the discipline of object- oriented programming which would have us believe OOPS is something only hardcore technical people do.

Author Peter Wright says otherwise.

In the companion volume to Beginning Visual Basic 6, Wright takes a step-by-step look at the OOPS capabilities of VB6 using a helpful and informative array of real-world examples and code snippets to get across the ins and outs of this unique programming discipline.

With commentary which includes the rudiments of OOP, ActiveX and COM interaction, Wright achieves in 500 words what many authors would take twice the space to do--and even better he does it effectively.

With added material on OO design methodology and the use of design methods including UML and Microsoft's Visual Modeller this is hardly a book for the programming beginner, but for those with a little knowledge and a sprinkling of patience, Beginning VB6 Objects is a must-have for the computing bookshelf.--Chris Russell

Synopsis
This book deals with objects and object-oriented development with Visual Basic 6. It explains why object-oriented programming is so important today and how its use can simplify the development process as a whole. It leads the reader into the realm of actual development by using real-world examples to demonstrate the sort of problems that programmers come up against everyday. This book is for Visual Basic programmers who have a grasp of the fundamentals of Visual Basic and want to learn how to do object-oriented development. This book is ideal for aspiring programmers with intermediate ability who wish to tackle ideas that are more complex.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for beginning VB OOP study!, 19 Mar 1999
By A Customer
This is a major revision of the VB5 edition of the book: Peter Wright has rewritten two chapters to clarify them, and added several more to extend the explanation of the design process and how to turn design into code, as well as delve more into inheritance under VB.

These changes make this the best introductory book on Visual Basic Objects currently on the market. Wright's style is easy to read, his sense of humor apparent, and he has good grasp of his material and covers it well. The topics are appropriate for a book at this level, although, like most popular textbooks today, they are sometimes covered too simplistically (the chapter on Active X components comes to mind as does the discussion of interface inheritance).

Beginning Visual Basic 6 Objects will serve as a spring board for those who want to go on to more advanced books such as Lhotka's Visual Basic 6 Business Objects. I highly recommend it for anyone wanted to learn OOP under VB.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, Clear to understand. Demonstrates the fundamentals, 8 April 2002
I've also had this book sat around for some time and wish I had read it sooner. It's been a while since I have done any VB, but that's irrelevant for this book.

The examples are clear and easy to understand. You don't spend hours typing in code for examples that don't work. Everything in concise and to the point, but most of all, you can get through this book quickly and begin writing your own applications.

You must buy this book if you are looking to start OOP or you need a refresher. Start here before picking up something more complex and you will truly gain the benefits.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Have a Copy for all Visual Basic OO Developers, 23 April 2000
By A Customer
It is good to start with, as the book goes directly into Components and Classes and not like many other books where it introduces classes in third or fourth chapter. Get the Professional Business Objects with Visual Basic 6.0 also from Wrox Press and you will have good collection on OOD and OOP.
