About the Author
Andrew Enfield
Andrew Enfield is currently finishing an undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering at the University of Washington. He has co-authored three books with Wrox Press and very much enjoys the writing and school lifestyle. When he's not writing, coding, studying, or living in labs on campus he likes to travel, read, watch baseball, and take long walks in beautiful, green and wet Seattle. In the last year he's camped in New Mexico and Arizona, visited Boston and California, and ventured out on a 3 month jaunt to Europe and the Middle East - that makes it four down, with three continents to go!

Darren Gill
From the humble beginnings of college Pascal, Darren quickly discovered Visual Basic to help with office automation and multimedia solutions. He has since evolved from that beginning and now builds web-based intranet applications.

Bruce Hartwell
Bruce Hartwell has eight years experience in the design, development and implementation of distributed systems. He has been working with PowerBuilder since its initial release and has seen it grow from a rudimentary programming tool to an enterprise development environment.

Alex Homer
Alex Homer lives and works in the idyllic rural surroundings of Derbyshire, UK. His software company, specializes in office integration and Internet-related development, and produces a range of vertical application software. He has worked with Wrox Press on several projects.

Stephen Jakab
Stephen Jakab has experience in writing custom solutions for corporate companies. He worked on the Consort II car fleet management system written in CA Clipper and as a Microsoft Certified Professional, he now concentrates on VB and ASP Internet/Intranet Web projects with the SQL Server backend. While he's not working, he enjoys many sports, reading anf travelling. This year he's been to the US, Canada and has recently returned from Hungary.

Dave Jewell
Dave Jewell is a freelance technical journalist, author and developer. He has regular programming columns in many UK-based computer magazines and has been involved with Windows since version 1.0. He lives in Oxfordshire, England with his wife, four children, dog, mice and budgerigar and is currently under heavy sedation as he approaches his fortieth birthday.

Rockford Lhotka
Rockford Lhotka has over 10 years experience in software development. He worked in Pascal, FORTRAN and Basic on VAX/VMS computers for a number of years until Windows NT and Visual Basic 1.0 first became available. Rockford has worked on many projects in various roles, including software development and design, network administration, help desk management and project management.

With the release of Visual Basic 4.0, Rockford began designing and developing n-tier client/server systems using component-based technology and has been doing so ever since. Rockford has been involved in the design and development of a number of successful, enterprise-level, applications based on the techniques discussed in this book.

In addition to designing and writing software, Rockford is an avid proponent of component-oriented design using Visual Basic and COM. He regularly speaks on these topics, as well as evangelizing the concepts to friends, coworkers and clients.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not all that good, 17 Jul 1998
By A Customer
This book is a bit too convoluted and indirect about the things it must cover in order to make you an effective VB5 ActiveX programmer. I've seen it done much more efficiently. I got two thirds of the way through it and had to lay it down.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a begginers book, 16 Oct 1997
By A Customer
I purchased this book from Amozon, attempted to read the first 3 chapters and returned it all within 24 hours. The writting is very unclear and I had a hard time following the topics. It was difficult to tell what they wanted us to try and what they were they were trying to explain. Maybey somebody with a few more years of experience in Visual Basic may have found this book usefull, but if you are new to VB, I strongly recomend against it.
