Product Description

Synopsis

A studio is more than a collection of equipment - it's a complex system in which every component must be carefully chosen and correctly connected. This text aims to show you how to get satisfactory results whether you use tape or a tapeless digital system.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful but requires some head-scratching of your own, 9 Sep 2002
By A Customer
I found this book very helpful as a starting point to improve the sound of my existing room.

After re-reading the relevant parts several times, calculating the axial modes of my room, re-arranging the furniture a few times and putting some foam cushion fillings in the appropriate places I have got the treble sorted and the bass is half way there. Soon I'll be off to buy some rockwool to make bass traps.

Don't expect an easy ready-made solution - I don't think there is one. Considering the complexity and subjectivity of studio design I think this is good for a book this size.

4.0 out of 5 stars The way to make you a star in your bedroom!, 26 Jan 2001

This is a great book if you want to start building a studio or dream of building one. The only thing is that you would like more of everything. More picture, bigger size, more studiodrawings, etc. But it's cheap. So I forgive them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Basic Home Studio Design, could do with updating now, 27 April 2009
By R. D. Garside - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this book when I was putting my 1st studio together and thought it overly technical for me at that time. All the ideas and principles are there but I felt that I had to read through a lot of stuff to find the parts that were relevant to me. I think the author tries to be all things to all home recording studio constructors which is good of course. The studio I have now has been constructed on an entirely different principle, don't treat the whole room, just the area which is used for recording, it saves a shed load of cash and works just as well. Don't get me wrong, it's a very informative book but it takes time to tease the relevant information out and, in the light of new sound treatment products and more direct injection recording techniques, it could do with an update if it hasn't had one already. I'd recommend anyone to read it however, because it establishes basic principles which inform you as to how, where, and more importantly, why.
