The Cocker Spaniel is the most popular of the Spaniel family, and this active, happy breed has endeared itself to dog-lovers worldwide. All Spaniels worked to the gun, with the smaller dogs being used to hunt woodcock and the larger dogs used for springing game. Eventually the Springer Spaniels and the Woodcock or Cocker Spaniels evolved as separate breeds. Today, the Cocker Spaniel is still used as a gundog, but its chief attraction is as a delightful and affectionate family pet, and as an exuberant show dog. In this highly comprehensive Book of the Breed, the author gives a brief account of the Cocker Spaniel's history, highlighting the leading kennels and Champion dogs that have influenced the breed. The Breed Standard is analysed, illustrated with top-quality line-drawings, and there is a detailed guide to coat care for both the pet and the show Cocker.

Joyce Caddy has included all the needs of an English Cocker's future owner, be it for the showring or as a pet, in an easy to understand and informative book.

The illustrations that accompany the article on trimming and the effort gone into this particular piece I found the best ever written on the breed.

The author has covered the Cocker Spaniel from whelping onwards including which is often forgotten his job as a gundog.

The history of the breed is explained and some lovely photographs are shown throughout.

A must for anyone who owns or plans to own an English Cocker Spaniel.

As a newcomer to the breed (7 years), I breed and show (novice). This book has helped to fill in the gaps of what I didn't know regarding conformation. The history of the breed and photos are brilliant sections to assist any potential owner, exhibitor or breeder have a better idea of what they are trying to achieve. The section on trimming is excellent. I couldn't stop reading it once picked up. An absolute must buy from one of the leading ladies in the history of this fantastic breed!!!

Having just received the book today (so I haven't had a chance to read it yet) I was disappointed to flick through and not see one colour photo of the dogs contained within the books pages - even though there is a large section on colour champions at the back. However, I bought the book based on a review saying it had a good insight into showing so I hope it lives up to that expectation.
