However, this smart, wire-coated dog was recognised as a separate breed at the end of the 19th century, and it quickly gained worldwide popularity. Characterised by its stocky build and abundant whiskers, the Miniature Schnauzer has a happy, alert temperament, which makes it an ideal companion dog.
