Product Description

Review

'What dominates FIONA'S STORY is the author's raw grief, ironically the most persuasive weapon, perhaps to further her cause. Parts of the book are intensely moving... Irene Ivison is humble enough to admite her shortcomings, brave enough to detail her pain.' THE TIMES

Product Description

Found dead in a car park in Doncaster, Fiona, the author's daughter had slipped through the social net and ended up in the hands of pimps and drug-dealers. Her mother now hopes to promote public awareness and question how society views and takes responsibility for young prostitutes.

5.0 out of 5 stars finerly someone who tells it as it is., 6 Oct 2004
By A Customer
it is great to read a book that tells it as it is, most people think the girls are at fault when they get into prositution but this is very often not the case. i really felt for fiona's family and fiona herself having been throught the same things in my life, my torture was for longer than fiona but i was lucky to escape it with my life.
i didnt have a mum that was there for me as fiona and i was so happy that at least fiona had that.
but the way the story is told is honest and to the point and must have taken great courage i applaude fionas mum for writing this book and surguest that no matter who you are or what you do that you should read this book so you can know some of the horrible things that are alloud to happen right under our nosies in the uk you only have to drive into the slightly roughter areas to see what is going on and there torture that people young girls especially suffer.
if you dont want to do this then read this book because it really is worth the time.
and an amazing story of the real world.

4.0 out of 5 stars A compelling read., 26 Oct 1998
By A Customer
Irene Ivison has written a detailed and moving account of her daughter's life. In telling Fiona's story she offers a glimpse into the torment a mother must go through when she feels she is losing contact with her daughter. Her feelings of sheer frustration and, at times, anger are very clear in her writing. The author writes as a mother, and occasionally it is obvious she is not a writer. However, this only succeeds in drawing the reader in even further, and accentuates the honesty with which she tells Fiona's story. This book is an absolutely compelling read which I would read again and again - if only I could stand to share Irene Ivison's heartache more than once. The reader knows how the story ends when embarking on its reading, but can't help wishing events had somehow been different.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sad, courageous but an educational story, 9 Jan 2004
By A Customer
I’d like to thank the author of bring her and her families horrifying experiences to my attention.

Being a year younger than Fiona I related to some of the pressures children were and still are exposed to today.

The book shocked me to stop taking life for granted.

Thank you,
