5.0 out of 5 stars For all children who have started a new school/new situation, 5 Feb 2001
By A Customer
Clarine starts a new school but finds it difficult to make friends. She seeks the advice of her mom,dad and finally her grandad. She tries to make friends with some goodies but this doesn't work. She makes children run after her but this also fails to make her friends. Her grandad suggests that she tries her Gotcha Smile. This is very successful and brings Clarine the friend she wanted. A beautifully written, brightly illustrated book which my 4 year old son described as a 'wonderful story'. My son couldn't help practicing his gotcha smile the following day at his new bilingual school where although he doesn't speak the language he knows everyone understands a Gotcha Smile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bright and uplifting story of Clarine's first days at school, 12 May 1999
By A Customer
This is a story of a little girl's first difficult days at school and the challenge of making new friends.

The double page pictures of children, school and parents are visually very bright and attractive.

My three and half year old loves the story, and can relate to the different themes. There are also warm pages of the little girl's different relationships with her mum, dad, and grandfather.

Easy to read many times, and good picture detail, with an uplifting ending. Recommended for bedtime reading, or just daytime fun.

Very hard to find in the shops, so bought this through Amazon, my first experience of online sales.
