Comprehensive Guide, Entertainingly Written, 14 Aug 2002
By A Customer
...It's logically laid out, starting with some quality photos of the Island to whet your appetite. The next 70-odd pages cover the history and culture, together with the "practicalities": food and drink, eating out, travel, opening hours, etc. It usefully lists tour operators not only in the UK, but also the USA.The rest of the book describes each province in great detail: main towns with maps, historical sites and museums(including opening hours, how to get there, telephone numbers), views, villages, where to see flora and fauna, recommended hotels and eateries. The authors have paid particular detail to the history of Sardinia, and archaeological sites, museums and churches are well covered. They have not forgotten, though, to recommend beaches, boat excursions, local festivals and cuisine, for example. This book has given me a feel for the "real" Sardinia; it's so enthusiastically written, and seems to cover everything a traveller would require. Money well spent!

Cadogan Guide to Sardinia, 1 April 2003
By A Customer
Having just spent an all too brief week in Sardinia, I have to say that the guide was an invaluable tool in getting to explore some of the less well known nooks and crannies of the island, and what is impressive is the sheer depth of detail and description of lesser known sites and towns. The historical detail also proved excellent - often adding much needed colour to the sparse information provided at sites. The guide also proved extremely useful with its lists of selected hotels and restuarants. It is a shame that the guide lacks pictures of any sort beyond the opening ten-page spread, but the quality, accuracy and thorougness of description make up for this. Overall, an immaculately researched guide which will help you get the most out of your trip to Sardinia, however brief.

Disappointing travel guide for the package traveller, 19 Sep 2004
By A Customer
I purchased the Cadogan Gide rather than the Rough guide I would normally choose based on the other 2 Amazon reviews. I was REALLY DISAPPOINTED with this guide! It definitely needs more pictures to create interest, it doesn't really highlight how poor (but cheap) the Sardinian bus system is, that you really need to hire a car if you want to do more than spend time at the beach. It's really an historical guide of the island, it doesn't give you real suggestions, what are the 10 things I really must do if I visit Sardinia? Before you puchase this guide, check some of the alternatives and see if they fit your holiday profile better, it certainly isn't worth the 4 stars that the other reviewers awarded.
