4.0 out of 5 stars The best guide to the region!, 5 Mar 2002

..I've found this book invaluable on several trips to Cantabria. It's just so thorough - My husband is from Santander and knows the area inside out, but still finds this book includes places to visit that he's never been to. Dane Facaros and Michael Pauls have a very humorous writing style that is occasionally wryly critical, but usually with good reason! In all our excursions from Santander we've found the restaurant and hotel listings incredibly reliable. If you value good, intelligent writing as well as practical information, this is the guide for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the paper its written on, 10 Aug 2001

Admittedly, we only used this book for our travels in Galicia but it was bitterly disappointing. For towns the size of Santiago and A Coruna where there is a wealth of eating places ranging from expensive retaurants to stand at the counter tapas bars all serving amazing food, there were a handful of restaurant recommendations. Directions were unclear or non existent and, considering the authors have lived in Spain for over ten years, there was absolutely no passion or enthusiasm about the places they visited.

Galicia is an amazing part of Spain rich in pagan and Christian history. The people are wonderful. The food is basic but delicious, the taurine afficion is completely different to say, Madrid or Andalucia but this does not come across in the book.

The best thing I can say is that the book was stolen during our trip which meant we didn't have to carry it back home.
