Over the years Morton football club has had its highs and lows. Periodically gracing Scotland's Premier Division, the club is famous as a warm and friendly club that has produced such talents as Joe Jordan and David Hopkin. In 1997 the club was bought by a new owner and came to the brink of extinction before being rescued by Douglas Rae, who has presided over a regeneration that has seen the club move up rapidly from the third division to the second, and challenge for promotion to the first division the very next season. In this new book about the men who have been the pride of Cappielow Park over the years, Graeme Ross has brought together the results of countless interviews with the players themselves, their friends and relatives, and fans, to recount the careers of 10 Morton stalwarts and their contributions to their proud club's history. This carefully researched and well-written book is sure to appeal to Morton fans of all ages.
From the Author
This is the book I've always wanted to write, and hopefully the kind of book that Morton fans will want to read. After almost going out of business a few years ago, Morton are back, with an exciting team and a dynamic chairman who is determined to bring the good times back at Cappielow. The club is now 130 years old, so it's a great time to celebrate the careers of some of their finest players. I hope my choice of ten Morton Greats will bring back great memories for a whole army of fans, and hopefully cause a few disagreements as well. The ten players have been carefully selected by me to reflect different eras at Cappielow since the 1940s, so I'm not claiming that it is the definitive list of the ten greatest ever, merely ten of many great Morton servants.
In conclusion, I fondly hope that everyone who reads the book enjoys reading it as much as I enjoyed researching and writing it.
