FORMED in 1919 from the ashes of Leeds City, Leeds United have a proud history, although they had to wait until the dawn of the Don Revie era in the 1960s before they began to achieve major honours. Even then Leeds seemed destined always to finish runners-up, but then the honours began to roll into Elland Road - League Championship, FA Cup, League Cup and Fairs Cup, as well as a place in the European Cup Final itself. A spell in the old Second Division followed before Howard Wilkinson restored the club to the top flight and in 1992 guided them to another League Championship. That year Martin Jarred and Malcolm Macdonald's new book The Leeds United Story was published by Breedon. The authorititave text, complemented by hundreds of fascinating photographs, was warmly received by United supporters and became a sell-out. Ten years on, the authors have revised and updated their book as United look towards the 2002-03 season with an exciting young team and high hopes of Premiership glory. The result will prove compelling reading for Leeds fans of all ages.
