Product Description

Product Description

Rowing is more about elegant style than raw power. This book introduces the beginner to the essential techniques, which can be applied on and off the water (with the aid of rowing machines ); it explains body coordination (with and without slide), and continues with advanced techniques for single sculling or rowing in teams. In addition to text and photography to demonstrate the skills of the sport, the book also covers training and coaching for competitive rowing, as well as describing how to get involved in the sport's non-competitive, recreational side, such as sea rowing. Worldwide contact details are given.

About the Author

Keith Maybery comes from a family of rowers whose involvement with the sport goes back to 1934. He has won championships in every boat class in his native South Africa, has represented his country in numerous international competitions and has rowed all over the world, including England, Denmark, the USA, Canada and Egypt. He was world-record holder in the coxed four in 1980 and 1981. Today a leading trainer, he has coached since 1963 at the highest international level. He's been an elected member of the world-famous Leander Club at Henley-on-Thames since 1991.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beginner level only, but good for that, 16 April 2002
By A Customer
This is an introductory level work only, but having said that it is very good at fulfilling that role. Very clear, with good quality colour photographs. This is exactly the kind of work for coaches & clubs to recommend to their beginners, or even have copies in stock to lend out to them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rowing: The essentail guide to equipment and Techniques, 21 May 2004
By ANNABEL CLARKE (Virgina Water, England) - See all my reviews
I am a keen fitness fanatic and have recently taken up rowing for the summer. It was a splendid book that gave me all good tips for a beginner. With this i feel confident to join as club and not have to worry about being taught the basics.
