Product Description

Product Description

Aimed at visitors and residents alike, this guide follows the tainted trail of London's notorious past. District by district, the author pinpoints extraordinary scenes of scandal and intrigue - some still vivid in memory, others buried by the tastes of subsequent generations - that have lent London notoriety. With the East End best remembered for Jack the Ripper and the Kray Twins, Bankside for its Tudor red-light area and the City for recent financial scandals and mystery suicides, many of London's other boroughs have experienced their share of infamy over the centuries.

5.0 out of 5 stars a different, realistic time travel into London's past, 30 Aug 2001

One soon tires of walking books; they point out statues, old buildings and perhaps political spots. Mr. Duncan's book gives you a real perspective into the seamy side of London's history; it's revealing and tawdry but true. Good for you, Mr. Duncan!
