The book should of been named Fit for Sport !, 3 Feb 2003
Something which is often ignored in the world of motorsport is the fitness of the competitor. Possibly because many have the thoughts that 'you are sitting down' ! Well as I myself am a competitor in rallying, I know all too well the physical, mental and stamina demands put on me.You could read a similiar book and turn around and say well where is the proof in all this! Well in this book it has examples, pictures and exercises that the people from the very top of motorsport take part in. This includes Michael Schumancher, David Coultard, Colin McRae and many other top wel known names. Also when Prof Sid Watkins (Medical Director in F1)has written the foreward to the book, I think you dont need any more proof on how 'solid' this book is on human fitness for sport. Not only does it go thru' exercises that are helpful, it goes thru training timetables, diets, the definition of fitness, your mental approach, and many many exciting and interesting ways to develop your fitness all backed up by Dr Raj Jutley (a motorsport competitor himself) and some of the top motorsport drivers with full colour pictures and explanations which makes the whole book an interesting read not only from front to back, but even as a reference book for whatever topic you need infomation from. You can even browse the book for thepictures and read the captions to pick up an awful lot of useful info! The book would even be of an interesting read to any sport enthusiast too! There is even a section which deals with the emergency side of motorsport, on how to deal with injured competitors in an accident. The approach to take and the all essential dos and donts on how to deal with someone in an accident which could mean the difference between life and death for the injured! I feel this book has one big mistake, in that it should of been named without the Motor in the title as it is a book that should be promoted to all sports. The day when the vision/guide of this whole book goes in to practice in real life. Motorsport will no doubt become a safer and more enjoyable sport all round for sure.
