Synopsis
For most of the post-1945 period Ford has dominated the British car industry. The UK operation. centred at Dagenham and given a high degree of autonomy by Henry Ford, produced models that gave sports car handling at family saloon prices. By 1955 this corner of Essex was the most productive piece of land in Britain. Any pan-European organisation should have been led from here. but US management later favoured a German-biased Ford of Europe. Here is the full story of the cars and the company. from the post-war high to the decline and final death knell when Fiesta production ceases this year.
