5.0 out of 5 stars A thoroughly enjoyable read, 20 Feb 2001
By A Customer
I bought this book following a newspaper review which appeared just before Christmas. Having recently purchased a motorcycle again after a long period away from the sport, I was searching for a book which would rekindle a feel for those halcyon days before the ultimate demise of the British motorcycle industry, a time I well remember. By a careful mix of nostalgia, industrial history and personal recall Steve Wilson manages to achieve all that for me, together with the very evocative drawings of Nicholas Ward. It proved an ideal bedtime book with the length of each chapter just about coinciding with my shortened span of night time concentration. I thoroughly recommend the book to all born-again bikers and those with a passion for British bikes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Down the Road, 5 Jun 2003
By Mr. David Jones (Newport,, Isle of Wight, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
If you are over fifty and love classic motorcycles, don't give this book a miss. The drawings by Nick Ward, although comical, are in a class of their own. The attention to detail comes only from exceptionally talented artists.

The writer has researched this subject so thoroughly, one gets a first hand straight and direct insight into the just how these machines came to be.

If you are lucky enough to own a classic, you will know it even better having read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most excellent for the vintage Brit bike admirer, 18 Jul 2004

I can only second the previous opinions seen below, it is a great collection of articles and antidotes. And yes Nick Ward's drawings are a constant amusement for anyone who has or has had a classic bike of their own. This makes a wonderful gift for the old bike lover in your family... yerself, perhaps?

Simply wonderful. Hoping for a second volume from Steve and Nick...
