Product Description

Product Description
Fangio started racing in the 1930s in his native Argentina and was immedidately successful. He first raced seriously in Europe in 1949, planning on one season only but victories led to a change of plan and the creation of a legend. Driving for several famous teams Fangio won a record five Formula I World Championship titles before retiring in 1958. This book also takes a look at his implacably calm personality, his kidnapping in 1958, his ill-starred attempt at the Indy 500 and his magnetic appeal to women.

From the Author
This was a clallenging book to write and illustrate.
I approached the writing and illustrating of a book on Juan Fangio with great trepidation, both because he is admired by millions and because I very deeply respected his career, personality and achievements. Fortunately I had wonderful help from the archives of Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari, among others, as well as the assets of our own Ludvigsen Library, so I feel that I have been able to shed some fresh illumination on the long life of one of the 20th Century's most respected and admired sporting heroes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Motor racing's finest, 24 Feb 2000
By david.ward@janes.co.uk (Dorking, England) - See all my reviews
Forget Schumacher, Senna, et al. This is the real thing! A truly great racing driver, sportsman and gentleman. This book really captures the spirit of Fangio. Although tackled a few times before, Karl Ludvigsen has done an excellent job aided by some marvellous pictures of motor racing at its purest - and most dangerous. This is an excellent book in an excellent series, lets hope there are more to follow, perhaps Jim Clark, John Surtees or Alberto Ascari?
