4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and easy to read, 9 Jul 2003
I found this book easier on the eye and brain than the other book on the the subject which I purchased at the same time. It really is intended for people intending to purchase, and just starting to drive their first 4x4. My father who has 30 years' experience around Southern African 4x4 routes, found new additional aspects of great value. Particular areas of interest were - safety tips for winching, avoiding trouble by driving responsibly and planning; a good "planning" section including lists of spares for various grades of excursion; and tips on driving techniques (with illustrations of footpedals, photos of approaches and so on). It is noticeably biased towards Landies - but not exclusively so. A book which lives in my Land Rover now!

2.0 out of 5 stars A book for the beginners, 13 Mar 2007
The book covers quite a number of topics. However they are rather too simple for the already 4x4 minded people who know that some SUVs do not have ow speed transfercase. This book can better be seen as an intoductory level guide. Consider something extra if you are planning for an overland trip.
