I actually purchased this manual on behalf of a friend who had just purchased a Rover 400 (2.0L) and was having trouble with it. He is no car mechanic and therefore any information I could find concerning this car had to be presented and written in a style acceptable to the average DIYer.

'Haynes' has become synonymous with car maintenance manuals even though the range of manuals now extends into non-automotive subjects such as computers, washing machines & dryers, woodworking, etc.

The 'Haynes' manual is the automatic choice for car owners wanting to do their own car maintenance. It is not the last word in automotive reference data because most vehicle manufacturers produce their own maintenance & service manuals which offer far more information than needed by most people. Also, these manuals tend to be highly technical, very expensive and not a good choice for the novice car mechanic. The 'Haynes' manuals are much cheaper than the bespoke manufacturers' documentation although their average price is slowly increasing.

The average price of a 'Haynes' manual is now around GBP20.00 but there are bargains to be had if they are purchased from specialist booksellers like those found on Amazon.

I like 'Haynes' because they address issues that the average car owner encounters and the photographic images within these manuals enhances the understanding of the narrative found therein.
