Haynes manuals remain the single most easily accessible set of information for the DIY car enthusiast. This one follows the usual format and is full of useful information on servicing data and torque settings etc.
At least in the recent manuals Haynes have resisted the temptation to include such things as rebuilding the automatic gearbox - no one at home should even try that one.
But this manual has the same problems as all the others in the Haynes range that I have used. That it does the job purely by the book. There are a lot easier ways of completing a lot of the jobs in the book. Also it suffers from the "take it to your dealer" syndrome that is a Haynes stock phrase. Self help groups and clubs will be of more use to the committed owner than this book, they know the shortcuts and how to test the "take it to your dealer" bits too. This is where Haynes really miss out on making the book a real "must have".
Another fault is that this book doesn't adequately cover all the models, particularly the later ones that differ in a large number of ways, despite being claimed on the cover. More suited to MK1 and early MK2 s.
