1.0 out of 5 stars And hardly a car in sight., 1 Aug 2002
By M. J. Passells (Weymouth, Dorset United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This slim volume speaks elequently of the worldwide importance of weldors and welding. It has reams of information on big, expensive, automatic machines, and it goes on and on (and on!) about how important welding is in nuclear power stations and show lots of pictures of welders doing all sorts of life saving stuff improving motorway bridges. Unfortunately, if you just want to lean the basics of how to weld up your car, it's pretty useless. Where is the info on how to weld in sills? how to patch in plates? how to do anything on a car?? You won't find it within these covers. Save your money and buy another bottle of gas to practice with.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good until you want to learn how to weld, 12 Mar 2002
By A Customer
I found this book very useful for helping me decide which type of welding equipment to buy. It gives a good general overview of the types of welding and cutting equipment commonly available, and a reasonable idea of how they work, without getting too detailed.
However, there is not enough information for a novice to teach themself to weld. I suppose this book would be OK for someone who was taking night classes in welding.
There are a couple of projects included, which could easily be adapted to make useful car accessories.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wheres the car stuff, 22 May 2007
I read this book first and can only describe my view as dissapointing. Wheres the automotive relivance? The book consists of an overview of welding and equipment with a project at the end to build a trailer (thats the closest to automotive). To add injury to insult it is identical to another Haynes publication, The Haynes manual on welding, with a different cover.
If your interested in getting started with welding, buy one or the other above BUT DONT buy both (like I did).
