5.0 out of 5 stars acne at your fingertips, 6 April 2003
By R Tucker (Beverley, East Yorkshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This is a great little book for anyone with acne who wishes to know more about their condition. The format of the book is the same in each chapter. A brief introduction is followed by a series of questions and answers provided by acne sufferers. The book gives clear and straightforward advice on all aspects of the disease and is very easy to read.
While aimed at sufferers and their families the book is also invaluable to any healthcare professionals who deal with acne patients and need to get some useful background on the types of questions that might be posed.
Finally, the book has an indepth glossary and list of help and support organisations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hits the spot, 15 May 2009
By Ramsey Tupper RIP "Ram-sey Tup-per" (R(3,3,3) = 17, of course...) - See all my reviews
This is a great overview of acne but doesn't delve to far into the history or other facets of research into acne. This is a basic guide to general treatment and preventative methods. Acne is a fascinating area of study once the hormonal surge has passed through the body.

Acne, the word, shares it's histrionic origins with words such as accurate and acute and also acupuncture. There is a whole wing of Chinese medical research which has linked certain areas of the body and parts of the face that are prone to recurring and random spots and carbuncles that match meridian points.

The theory is that spots upon a post puberty adult, body or face relate to a general malaise within the body. Spots upon the chin when not caused by external factors such as dust or bacteria, are actually the body's way of communicating an internal problem. The meridian points used for acupuncture relate to common problems highlighted by this correlation between spot and acupunture points.

A common problem felt by a cross section of people is recurring lumps in ear lobes. This has been linked to mild liver disturbances, which, upon the standard meridian point map, matches exactly the treatment point for liver problems. This is just one of many examples of this exciting new field of study.

The book is however an excellent guide to dealing with everyday acne issues.
