5.0 out of 5 stars The co-authors verdict., 3 May 2000
By A Customer
Ian Rigby and myself (Mike Payne), nurtured a dream to write the best book on Preston North End ever written so far. We set out to write a comprehensive history of our favourite football club. We are delighted with our efforts and what you see here is an unrivalled book crammed full of facts, figures, anecdotes, match reports and everything and anything to do with North End. It is essential bedtime reading for all fans of the club. We desperately wanted all the fans to see what a superb and rich history the club has and this comes across in the pages. 100 seasons are graphically illustrated and the photographs are the best collection ever assembled. The reviews we have received and all the excellent comments from North End fans make us believe that we have fulfilled our original dream.

5.0 out of 5 stars An invaluable PNE reference but still great fun to dip into!, 29 Feb 2000
By A Customer
Drawing on their extensive researches and collections of North End memorabilia, authors Ian Rigby and Mike Payne have come up with a book which will satisfy the statistics nut on the one hand, while remaining hugely enjoyable for the more casual reader who might prefer to leaf through and admire the marvellous photographs (of which there are well over 300, including some rather obscure ones - e.g. David Beckham during his spell at Deepdale in 1995) or see some more of Bob Bond's justifiably popular PNE caricatures.

For the historian there is a mine of useful information. Every year of North End's one hundred League seasons has its own section, complete with a table of players and results (as presented in a matchday programme) as well as lists of players making their first or last appearances for Preston that season, contemporary newspaper reports and so on. If you are one of those people who remembers events in your life by the games you saw or missed then you'll relish the ability to dig up specific dates!

Ian Rigby is quoted as saying he and Mike Payne set out to write the sort of book that they as fans would have loved to own. It's fair to say they succeeded as far as this fan is concerned.
