Product Description

Product Description

When an Edinburgh car showroom is torched, leaving a charred body among the burnt-out luxury cars, Deputy Chief Constable Bob Skinner wonders if a life of crime has finally caught up with one of the city’s most elusive villains. But the corpse turns out not to be that of Jackie Charles, the owner of the showroom, but his wife Carole. Skinner now finds himself on the same side as his old enemy in the search for the killer. However, Skinner's number one priority is a murder much closer to home. Ever since memories of his first wife Myra's death resurfaced under hypnosis, the question of how she really died has become an obsession which could threaten his career, his marriage and even his sanity. As Skinner and his daughter Alex unlock the hidden secrets of Myra's past, they discover a woman neither could have imagined. A Myra whose bloody fate is linked inextricably across the years with the fiery death of Carole Charles... --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but flawed crime thriller, 18 Feb 2002
By A Customer
Skinner's Mission was the first novel by Quintin Jardine that I read and although not flawless it did inspire me to read some of the other novels in the series. Quintin Jardine isn't quite in the league of other more popular authors in the crime/thriller genre and it's difficult to pinpoint why not. Skinner's Mission is quite a light read and unfortunately just seems to lack a bit on pace and tension, although it does have a gripping ending. Definitely an enjoyable read and certainly a good buy especially for fans of the genre.

4.0 out of 5 stars Skinner's Mission, 8 Sep 2009

Police crime fiction. One of the series of Bob Skinner novels written by Quentin Jardine. Best read in chronological order. In this book the reader learns about the young Bob Skinner. Under hypnosis Bob realises that the crash in which his wife was killed 18 years ago was no accident, his mission is to find the killer, at a personal cost to his newly created family status. A good read, can be read as a stand alone piece but flows much better as part of the series.

Skinner's Mission (Bob Skinner Mysteries)

As always, Quinton Jardine has come through with a book I couldn't put down. Skinner is fascinating as always, so complex, yet such a good man at heart. I am hooked on all the Bob Skinner books, which I have read, and can't wait for more!
