This guide book saved our vacation to Belize. We had planned our trip using a rival guide which resulted in some very disappointing and expensive experinces. Fortunately, the Rough Guide came through with solid information and reliable advice allowing us to salvage our lengthy vacation. The best practical guide for first timers to Belize, esp. for those seeking affordable accomodations and credible information on good local food and in counrty services. We spent 6 weeks in Belize and all Mr. Eltringham's advice was right on the mark. Very useful in avoiding the numerous over priced tourist traps that unfortunately seem to be proliferating in Belize (and in other guide books.) Remember, in Belize price is no assurance of a quality experience, but with the right guidance you can get much more than you payed for or ever expected. Thanks Peter!

We spent a week in Belize as part of our Central America honeymoon. We thought this book would be a mind of information as we had just hired a vehicle to tour in. It proved wrong. For starters the maps of Belize city were all wrong (2hrs trying to get out of the city where no one way streets marked) but it was the hotel information which led us to believe that the author can't of visited, let alone stayed in, most of the places he wrote about!! We will certainly be sticking to the Lonely Planet series from now on, having only taken this one as it had been a lighter book.
