3.0 out of 5 stars Good History, but some dodgy information, 26 Jul 2000
Just back from my first trip to Prague. Tremendous city!

The Rough Guide to Prague was useful in terms of maps, directions, good areas etc. It was also very readable for a bit of history about the city.

However, I was annoyed at various pieces of information simply being wrong. This included, amongst other things, incorrect shop opening times, and incorrect price guide of taxi from the airport. In a book that is so up to date, I was suprised at being caught out by these things. There were many other inaccuracies which slip my mind at the moment (probably due to the amount of Czech beer which was consumed).

I think I'll try a Fodor's guide next time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not such a rough guide to Prague, 13 Sep 2002
I have travelled through many places, especially in Africa and have grown up with my travel 'Bible' - the Lonely Planet, this was my first excursion into the world of 'Rough Guides' and what a change!
The 'Rough Guide' seems to be anything but, it is the most comprehensive travel book that I have come across, it genuinely has everything that you could hope to know about Prague. There are sections on different parts of the city, a comprehensive history and details of everything, where to eat, what to do, and so on.
In general the content of the book is fantastic, though the layout leaves much to be desired. The print is small and hard to read, especially when you are in the process of travelling, say on a train, and there are too many titles and references to the Czech name for a location, which is fine when you know the city, but when you are looking for the first time they are completely meaningless, if you are looking for the castle in the book you need to know the Czech for castle or it will take a long time to find.
If you are a backpacker then keep away, the book is hard to use and not that well designed for quick reference, if you are able to take more time and read the book in advance then you will benefit from the content, which is truly fantastic. In short, I am off to buy the Lonely Planet's guide to Prague, which I know will be user friendly.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too opinionated, 13 Jan 2000
By A Customer
The author practically had nothing good to say about anything. Too many mixed reviews on restaurants - either praising the food of a particular place, but then he wouldn't be happy with the decor and vice versa. Not really aimed for the budget traveller - the Lonely Planet guides are more practical and much better.
