5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive, 11 Jun 2003
By Ebbe Tøfting Hove (Viby J. Denmark) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
When I bought this book, there were only a couple of rather unfavorable reviews to judge by, so it was bought on the strength of the other titles in the series. No regrets there. The guide to Greece is entertaining and carries a wealth of information, trivia and opinions. In the current ninth edition (February 2002), the prices are in euro and the new airport in Athens is extensively described. Of course there are a few snags. The hydrofoils from Piraeus to the Saronic Islands now depart from the main harbour (good thing we asked around) and the book really needs a map of the Athens Metro. But apart from that, it's smooth sailing in good company.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensable guide to Greece, 9 May 2002
By richard.wood@oxoid.com (Basingstoke, hampshire) - See all my reviews
This book crams in a huge amount of information. Historical sites are described in detail, travel information and recommendations are generally sound and reliable. What really shines through is the writers love of the subject, you don't have to read much before you become infected. The level of detail means that some information becomes outdated i.e. Prices are in Dracma's; the opening of the New International Airport in 2001 makes some Athens info. inaccurate.
But I wouldn't be without my copy, its falling to bits, its been thumbed through so many times while travelling in Greece.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eat your heart out Lonely Planet!, 29 Aug 2000
By A Customer
You only need two quides for Greece: The Rough and the Eyewitness - the Rough for specific and accurate info. and the Eyewitness for photos.

The Rough is a superb bit of kit - and as essential as a pair of shorts. And if you are an independant type, even more so. The info is enormous yet carefully organized to provide a reader-friendly interface that is second to none. There is no pretentious 'styling' that can alienate the readers of 'other' guides. The 'Lonely Planet' habit of interweaving their own version of reality is also absent.

At best the Rough Guide is a superlative handy-sized repository of quality info. and at worst it is the best travel guide around - no contest!

Keith Warwick
