2.0 out of 5 stars Clearly designed, but not all exam boards covered, 12 Jan 2003
The Letts revision guides are some of the best around - they are in-depth, give a good synopsis of every topic (not leaving them out or skimming over topics as some teachers are known to do), in an easy-to-understand and well-structured layout, and include icons to indicate exactly which sections are relevant to you. I have recently bought the corresponding chemistry A2 guide, and have found it excellent. Generally, I would give Letts guides about 4 stars.

This book, however, falls below their standards. Writing a maths revision guide of any type is going to be hard, due to the sheer number of example equations and lack of prose required. However, out of the content there was, the book really didn't seem to convey it well and didn't have the same "sticking" power the notes in other books in the range do.

Furthermore, the book simply does not cover the appropriate syllabuses. This comment may not apply to most people, but as I am sitting the AQA A-syllabus no list of "which questions are applicable to me" was given, and the "this question is in this module" marker icons above every section did not include ones appropriate to me. Therefore, I found piecing together information scattered across the chapters unessecarily time-consuming when I should have been revising - which is fundamentally wrong.

This book is not without its uses however. It does contain precise notes and visually clear equations and walkthroughs, which will quickly help streamline thought and revision time. If you are considering buying this revision guide, then please check that the syllabus you are studying is covered by the book. I'm sure this book is very useful for some people, but the best maths revision method is still to attempt exam-standard questions over and over and learn from your mistakes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy to understand, 2 Aug 2003
By A Customer
This book was well set out and easy to follow. It was very helpful in the crisises of revision and helped me to understand the difficult areas of the course. Not a must have but helpful all the same.
