4.0 out of 5 stars THANK YOU DAVID PARSONS!, 4 April 2000
By A Customer
Having a project to write in a new language is daunting enough, especially when you are a skiving student who pays virtually no attention in lectures, like me. I had some idea about what I was doing, but this book saved my skin. It took about two days to get through, and my programming knowledge increased dramatically. I managed my project which without this book would have been a disaster. I recommend this book to anyone who has a little knowledge and needs to expand this dramaticaly and quickly, or to those with no knowledge and have some time to spare. Very readable and brilliant for quick refrence!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction for the new Java developer, 22 Nov 1999
By A Customer
Being new to object-orientated concepts I found this book invaluable. The jump from procedural to object-orientated thinking was smoothed considerably by the clear explanations and good examples. I don't have a problem with the idealistic examples used as this allowed me to cencentrate on the problem without distraction. My only gripe is that it is too short. Passing objects in messages instead of simple data types was not explained for example and I find that I am struggling to understand this at the moment. The experienced object-orientated programmer will no doubt find this book merely a nice revision book, however, the novice or converting programmer will find it very informative and clear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid base for OOP, 15 Mar 2004
By Joanne Jackson (Shropshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Introductory Java (Paperback)
This is a simple basic introduction to Java and Object Oriented programming. It is explained in simple language and won't blind you with jargon.
The book is great if you are just starting out and a good reference for further study. There are plenty of examples and exercises to compliment reading. It covers you if you are studying HND/HNC.

This bloke is (or was) my tutor on a Computer Science degree. His work was good enough to get him out of the academic architecture and out to earning some real cash. Read more
