5.0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining, 9 May 2003
By A Customer
When I read books of letters I would usually 'dip', but these were so funny and entertaining I read them from beginning to end. Evelyn Waugh has a wonderful turn of phrase and can be extremely rude or remarkably tender about the people he writes about. He was passionate about being a Catholic and there are some very interesting letters to John Betjeman trying to persuade him in no uncertain terms to become a Catholic also. They are also very funny when he is railing against change - he had a particular loathing for Picasso - a 'beast'. Very useful if you would like a background setting to his books, but as a study of a clever, waspish sometimes remarkably cruel man they can stand alone.
