5.0 out of 5 stars The events which unfold when Charlotte FitzRoy goes ape., 11 Mar 1999
By A Customer
When middle-aged mother of 2 (well, 1 now)Charlotte FitzRoy loses her marbles she finds herself in a self-imagined wonderland faced with the 3 greatest thinkers of the 19th century and her guide Jenny. The thinkers - Marx, Freud and Darwin - prove somewhat of a disappointment whilst Jenny turns out to be an orang utan in a floral summer dress. As the 3 pillars of modern wisdom crumble at the thought of anything other than their stomachs, Charlotte and Jenny set about finding a place to take afternoon tea.

This is a powerful and brilliantly-written novel in which our concepts of mental illness are dislodged and questioned repeatedly. A superb blend of irreverant humour, deep insight and compassion.
