Tyneside-born George Stephenson (1781-1848) and his son, Robert (1803-1859), were pinoeers of the steam locomotive and the railways, earning a lasting place in history for their achievements. Focusing mainly on the North-East, Stephenson Power tells the story of these two great engineers, from the little cottage at Wylam where George was born, to the building of the famous locomotive Rocket and the great engineering feat of the High Level Bridge across the Tyne.


About the Author

Ken Smith is the author of several books on the maritime history of the Tyne, an is a sub editor on the Journal, Newcastle.
