This review is by Richard W Knight, HR transition manager at PriceWaterhouseCoopers Business Process Outsourcing. This book and its contents should be made available to every new employee coming into organisations. As an investment, it would lay the foundation for developing the next generation of personally aware and confident individuals, energised team members and sensitive people managers. In our fast changing world, leading and leadership are becoming harder and harder to define and develop for ourselves. How do I go about shaping and influencing the culture of my organisation and be true to who I am? How do I become more open to others' ideas and influences, developing them to help me resolve often complex problems? How can I stop my self from feeling out of control and get in touch with what I want to do and how I want to do it? Inner Leadership helps the reader to tap into the one constant source of answers to these and other questions - him or herself. It is presented in a straightforward and down to earth way which is both refreshing and entertaining. You will be able to access and make sense of concepts which will help you to better understand yourself and the people you work with and manage. These concepts underpin everyday tasks in work and organisations. Team briefings and communications; performance reviews and discussion; project updates and teamworking. Your own and others' character, motivations, mindsets and values will become clearer. You will also understand how to begin that hardest of all personal and management tasks, namely to sustain personal change and develop yourself as well as developing others. The exercises in the book are designed to allow some time for thought gathering and reflection, so that you build and ground your own reality as you explore the topics presented. Indeed, these exercises can usefully be developed and used by anyone who works in the field of Management or Personnel Development, whether in working with groups or as part of a one to one coaching strategy.
