This book gives a very enlightening perspective on the Cavan and Leitrim Railways in Ireland that existed until 1957. My reason for buying this book was to find out more about this railway line, since there is very little information on it. I wasn't disappointed as the book's best part is to provide a photographic history of the railway line from different areas. My favourite is the picture taken of the former Tralee and Dingle coach, once used on the railway, on a boat after arrival to the US, to reside in a railway museum.

This book is suitable for those who aren't interested in railways also, but want to see a pictoral history of various parts of the North-West Midlands of Ireland such as Derreen, Mohill and Ballinamore. The back of the book provides a wonderful map of the old railway lines that covered this part of Ireland, which is a good foundation if you want to research other railways in Ireland.

The only fault with the book is that the history of the railway is provided as a sketch, and could be a little longer. This may suit someone who just wants to dip into the subject, rather than undertake some indepth research. I would recommend this book to anyone who wishes to fnd ot more about the historical perspective of Irish railways, or even wants to see what the `old Ireland' used to resemble.
