5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational, 8 Oct 2003
By Mark (London, England United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
What a wonderful book ! It must have been hard to re-live all of this in text, but I'd certainly recommend reading this to anyone who was abused in childhood, has been touched by it or even anyone who is seeking courage; not only faced with legal proceedings. This book is an inspiration to all of us and is written in such a way, with such honesty and humanity to make it so credible.

5.0 out of 5 stars The trauma of childhood trust destroyed bravely relived, 9 Oct 2003
Straight from the heart and bravely relived this book is heart renderingly open and honest. From personal experience I know that this would have taken a lot of courage to write but also may have helped in her recovery. As a mutual survivor it was gratifying and reassuring to realize that I am not alone in suffering the horrors created by the intolerable abuse of an innocent child well into adulthood. It was easy for me to relate to the author, being of an extroadinarily similar age, and undoubtedly having suffered abuse at probably the same time.
I cannot say that I know what she must have felt but her writing provides an excellent portrayal of what to some would undenialbly be a very tough topic to swallow. For me the book was extremely well written and I was drawn to reading the whole book in one go especially as it appeared at outset not to be too huge in content or complicated in language. The way the author and other victims successfully stood up and disputed the law on 'plea bargaining' as well as bringing the school to account, setting a worthwhile precedent for the future, so aptly described in this book, opened even my eyes to the failings of society. The book provides, I'm sure, another step in the right direction for the recognition and acceptance by our society as a whole of the fact that the abuse of children has never ending effects and ripples throughout the community and has done for many years despite the ignorance and denial of some. If it was the intention of the author to support those abused and those in a position to help then for me it worked. I will be eternally grateful for her bravery and admire her courage to speak out. I only wish that I could do the same. I would thoroughly recommend the book to anyone and everyone and have to say that I really hope they do.
