Product Description

Synopsis

The Other Side of Silence opens with a terrifying plane crash in the wilds of the Amazon jungle. In the search for survivors another plane goes down in this inhospitable land. Three characters Sylvia, a research scientist, Paul, an exploitative businessman and Mark, a doctor, each struggle to find a way home. Thus begins a difficult journey which rapidly becomes one of self discovery as Sylvia battles with a lack of self worth, Paul with his philandering lifestyle and Mark with his unhappy marriage. Matters are further complicated by a growing sexual chemistry between Sylvia and her male companions. An impending tragedy is revealed to Sylvia by a South American shaman, but will she be able to act on the advice given in time? The Other Side of Silence will appeal to readers who like stories of adventure and romance and has enough twists and turns of plot to satisfy even the most demanding reader.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Other Side of Silence, 13 Jul 2002
By A Customer
This is a fascinating novel and, for me, it was also an education. The Amazon jungle, its vegetation, medicinal plants, animal life and waterways provide the background.
Helen Reno's three characters play out their drama against the ever-present but rarely seen Indian life of the forest. Messages are transmitted in ways that only one of the three can understand and even she cannot be sure of the outcome. Signs and portents assume a growing significance, as the story progresses.
Anyone who reads this book will feel the authenticity of its setting and will come away with a deeper understanding of a variety of issues.
