Product Description

Review

"'Ursula is a natural teacher and has distilled the essence of clinical hypnosis into this new text. Theory, however, is all very well but carries little weight if practical skills are lacking. It is in this aspect of the work that she excels. This wide ranging primer covers the theory, practice and history of the subject as well as including very useful links to further information. This fascinating subject is made accessible by her clearly structured approach and everyone from novices to experienced hypnotherapists are sure to gain new insights from the book.' Mark Feldman, in the Foreword"

Book Description

If you are interested in how hypnosis works and would like to learn self-hypnosis, or if you are studying the subject, or if you already use it in your practice, this book and its companion CD is the essential guide. The skills taught in this volume include how to utilise hypnosis for personal use as well as in the professional setting, and incorporates highly portable communication skills as a basis for increasing the accuracy of diagnosis.

The Clinical Hypnosis Textbook is required reading at seven UK medical schools including Oxford and Cambridge, and is recommended reading for the London College of Clinical Hypnosis.

5.0 out of 5 stars An essential and practical guide to clinical hypnosis, 4 Nov 2005
By Emma Waddell (London, London United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Ursula has written the most superb introduction to clinical hypnosis that will appeal to both the lay person and the experienced practitioner alike. Due to popular television programmes and 'stage' hypnotists, hypnotherapy is open to much misunderstanding and confusion. Ursula makes the nature of hypnosis clear, expelling popular myths, and writing in clear and plain English.

As a student of hypnotherapy (and not a great fan of academic textbooks) this will be a core book that I will refer to again and again. The glossary of terms is particularly usueful for reference. A very enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars a brilliant, clear, very accessible hypnosis textbook, 10 Sep 2006
This is an excellent, interesting and enjoyable book in its own right and as a clinical hypnotherapist I have found it to be a clear aid and reference book also, which I often refer to. I thoroughly recommend this book to student hypnotherapists and seasoned practitioners alike as a valuable resource. Ursula writes with great clarity and accessibility.

5.0 out of 5 stars A seminal text in the field of clinical hypnosis, 3 Oct 2005
This book should progress in time to become essential reading for all lay and medical students of hypnotherapy

The techniques to be found within the book are highly practical and can be used to improve patient/client evaluation, enhance diagnostic skills, and build rapport among patients. The book also teaches individuals how to explore the benefits of self hypnosis and induce it to others, whilst also managing to give an apposite introduction to hypnotherapy and its application in the medical setting.

The most fulsome praise should be reserved however, for the lengths that Ursula goes to explaining and teaching the structure and process that sits behind the hypnotherapeutic protocol.(chps 3 & 7). For it is the proper understanding and diligent practice of this process that creates good protocol itself and thus makes a good hypnotherapist.
