5.0 out of 5 stars An explorers delight, 29 Sep 2005
Having read earlier editions of this book, I discovered monuments and relics of a wild age in a ruggedly beautiful part of the world explained in such an enthusiastic and clear way that even an archaeological novice would have no difficulty in understanding terminology detailed within.

This book combines fine detail with travelogue, explaining everything from where to park and bus routes, a dificulty scale for those with mobility issues, describing ease of access (or lack of it!!)

But best of all, this book describes monuments on a scale equivalent to Stonehenge, but without the hordes of tourists in a land reminiscent of something from Tolkein, this book is a must if you are embarking on your own grail quest, along with the Mabinogion for the folklore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gwynedd ;Frances Lynch, 13 Nov 2007

(REAL NAME)
Everything that the last reviewer said and more ! It's concise, easy to use , beautifully and helpfully illustrated, complete with grid references and a written visual picture so you can tell when you're there or not . Also , incredibly helpful hints like how high the bracken will be in the summer , whether you should wear your wellies and how friendly the landowners are and where to park your car without upsetting the locals , o yes , and an overview from someone who must know more about archaeology in Gwynedd than anyone else ever. !!
