Tom Holt has made a name as one of the finest examples of the genre, and 'My Hero' is another display of talent. Regalian is every novels Hero turned inside out [he's a closet country and western fan, but otherwise an ok guy] and Jane the epitome of a suffering writer in a novel that simply won't pan out! Featuring cameos from Hamlet, the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse [though looking a little different] and taking place at the End of the World [tm], 'My Hero' is not a novel to miss!

This is the first Tom Holt book I've read. I've heard how funny and witty his books are and so I decided to give him a go. I obviously picked the book he wrote while he was 'non compus mentis'! I tried to give it a fair crack of the whip, reading until almost halfway through the book, but in the end I had to give in and give up! I found myself wondering what and who each character was and just as things were beginning to look slightly clearer, the plot would shift to another set of characters and I would have to rethink again! Perhaps its just me (as the idea for the story is good - characters of books coming to life), but Mr Holt creats so many sub-plots and characters who seem to have no relevance to the storyline, that I found myself skimming paragraphs just to reach the end of the page. I found very little to laugh about and I began not to care about the fate of the characters.

I won't give up on Tom Holt. After having read an earlier review of this book, it seems I picked the book in which he was not at his literary best. I hope I'm not wrong!

This is probably the best book i've read. I can't believe it only got a 2 and a half star rating. It had me laughing alot, i would read it again and still laugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
