5.0 out of 5 stars HOW useful is this book?!!?, 13 May 2005
Answer: very!! It's practical and down to earth, with all the advice you are ever going to ACTUALLY need, without bogging you down in complicated and unnecessary stuff. It's not the book for anyone who wants to read all there is to know about screenwriting theory or deep structure, but it does have loads of clear advice about how to write for EastEnders or The Bill. The author believes that if you have the talent to write dialogue then you can learn the rest - and tells you all you really need to know about character, plotting, and dialogue. It also looks at different slots for television writers - series drama, soap operas, children's drama, situation comedy - and gives valuable advice about the kind of script a would-be professional scriptwriter should attempt. It's a very funny book, and written with great enthusiasm - I found that each chapter stimulated my imagination and made me want to get writing. I would recommend this book to anyone who is serious about getting into the world of scriptwriting.
