The most comprehensive environmental sector reference book, 18 April 1999

We are frequently asked 'How do I get a job in the countryside?' and only those who have tried to answer this apparently simple question will appreciate just how complex and confusing the answer can be! In response to the demand, many 'green' organisations have produced their own leaflets on the subject, but these tend to be too short or too single-minded to give the whole picture. As a former Careers Adviser, by comparison, Buffton has taken a much more detailed and impartial overview of all types of work in the UK environmental / countryside sector. An introductory chapter sets the scene, followed by a chapter each on working in the public, private and voluntary sectors. Other chapters cover taking stock of yourself, improving your employability, your skills and your qualifications, studying and taking the next step. A Glossary, List of Useful Addresses and an Index are also included. 'Working for the Environment' is the most comprehensive account I have come across and covers the Who, What, Where, When, How and Why of the most important career in the world.
