Product Description

Review
"We used your guide to Malta and were delighted with it - not least because we were able to devise several of our own walk variations using your excellent maps." (J.M., Carlisle)"

Product Description
Malta, Gozo and Comino attract hundreds of thousands of tourists each year, most of them from Britain, Italy, Germany and Scandinavia. Many are lured by the typical Mediterranean weather; others see Malta as a change from the Spanish 'Costas', while British ex-servicemen and their families, once stationed here, come back for a nostalgic look at how things have changed. Not everyone stays around the hotel pools or heads for the nearest beach and many people prefer touring or walking in the countryside. The Maltese landscape offers rich rewards for those who enjoy exploring: interests in ancient and modern history, military and ecclesiastical architecture, geology, and flora are all well catered for. If this will be your first visit to the Maltese Islands, sampling a few of our walks and tours will be a perfect introduction. This new 4th edition has been thoroughly updated to reflect changes that have taken place since the third edition was published.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great walks and good maps, 24 Nov 2006
By A. Tudberry (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've used this guide many times on walks around Gozo/Comino with the family. Good maps are hard to find, so the accurate and well drawn maps in this book are very welcome. Some really lovely walks - don't miss the Gozo salt pans and the Ta Cenc cliffs. Can't comment on the Malta maps, but expect they're good as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for a walking holiday, 9 Jul 2009
By Robert Green (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
We have visited Malta twice in the last couple of years and, as those who enjoy walking, we have found this book invaluable. There are walks of all shapes and sizes from gentle strolls to one or two long hard walks (one in particular on Gozo). The landscape in Malta is such that paths are often very difficult to follow but the guidance given for each walk is clear and precise (only once have we gone badly astray and as we backtracked we could see where we made our mistake). Obviously you need to have the most up to date version with you as things do change. Malta is a country that you need to see 'up close' to really appreciate and this guide really enables you to do that. It is especially useful that there are a number of walks on Gozo included as well as a circular walk around Comino starting from the Blue Lagoon(well worth doing). One of our favourite walks begins from Mellieha Bay and, via the 'Popeye' set (a bit out of place if you ask me!) finishes at Golden Bay. You don't even need to walk back as the bus will take you from there to Mosta from where you can get a bus back to Mellieha. We have never hired a car on our visits to Malta and it has never been a problem to get the bus to where the walk begins; the guide includes details of which buses you need to catch (do be aware that if you want to go from one end of the island to the other on the bus it will take some time!).

3.0 out of 5 stars Malta is not the place to go for a walking holiday !, 27 April 2009
We have used other Sunflower guides in the past and found them fantastic, easy to use and the way to see the "real" countryside. So when we were looking for holiday destinations we looked at which Sunflower guides were available. Having seen cheap flights to Malta and a Malta Sunflower book we quickly booked up ! However, we quickly discovered upon arriving in Malta, that it is not a walkers destination (unless you are happy walking along endless potholed tracks and jumping out of the way of traffic!). We want countryside, paths, right of way and interesting routes but it would appear that Sunflower Books are riding on their excellent reputation to make money out of inappropriate destinations. The walks we completed were well written and easy to follow as we have come to expect but Malta should not be marketed as a walkers paradise ! We will be very wary of other Sunflower books in the series now.
