Product Description

Review

"We used your guide to Malta and were delighted with it - not least because we were able to devise several of our own walk variations using your excellent maps." (J.M., Carlisle)"

Product Description

Malta, Gozo and Comino attract hundreds of thousands of tourists each year, most of them from Britain, Italy, Germany and Scandinavia. Many are lured by the typical Mediterranean weather; others see Malta as a change from the Spanish 'Costas', while British ex-servicemen and their families, once stationed here, come back for a nostalgic look at how things have changed. Not everyone stays around the hotel pools or heads for the nearest beach and many people prefer touring or walking in the countryside. The Maltese landscape offers rich rewards for those who enjoy exploring: interests in ancient and modern history, military and ecclesiastical architecture, geology, and flora are all well catered for. If this will be your first visit to the Maltese Islands, sampling a few of our walks and tours will be a perfect introduction. This new 4th edition has been thoroughly updated to reflect changes that have taken place since the third edition was published.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great walks and good maps, 24 Nov 2006
By A. Tudberry (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've used this guide many times on walks around Gozo/Comino with the family. Good maps are hard to find, so the accurate and well drawn maps in this book are very welcome. Some really lovely walks - don't miss the Gozo salt pans and the Ta Cenc cliffs. Can't comment on the Malta maps, but expect they're good as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Varied Scenery on a densely populated island!!!, 1 April 2009
The Maltese islands have a great deal to offer to the visitor. Apart from the sun and the beaches it is very rich in history and culture. Although Malta is densely populated it still offers the rambler a great deal of walking. This book takes the reader to explore the hidden charms that are often ignored by most tourists. The best walks described in the book are those on the west coast i.e. from Wied iz-Zurrieq to Mellieha, where the cliff scenery is breathtaking. Also the sister island of Gozo is a walkers' paradise and the walks described here are awesome. Comino is the 'away-from-it-all' island and the walk described here takes you to its blue lagoon, cliffs, offshore islets and an imposing tower. I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who visits Malta.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well up to standard, 30 Mar 2009
By Bookhead (Bristol UK) - See all my reviews
Back in the early 90's I bought the Sunflower guide to Mallorca. It did its job so well that I have bought titles from the series ever since, for instance Madeira, the Picos, Provence, Turkey and most recently, Malta. They are a convenient size and shape for carrying in a pocket, are strongly put together, and the shiny paper resists sweaty fingers.
The detailed car tours are pleasant, but I buy them for the walks. I like the fact that each walk has several variants, so you can always find something within the capabilities of your party and the transport you favour. Directions for finding the start of the walk are usually clear and reliable. Directions during the walk are seldom ambiguous or vague, and the cumulative timings given are an excellent idea, and I have found these very accurate and helpful. The maps are good too. You don't need anything else.
The Malta guide was well up to standard. We did ten of the walks in a fortnight, using the excellent bus service to access the walks. The walks were very varied and enjoyable. We went in the second half of May, and the temperature was delightful.
