4.0 out of 5 stars Useful walking guide but a bit limited, 9 Oct 2003

I have only tried a few of the walks in this book. The guide proved to be detailed and accurate, and the book is a useful shape and size for carrying. My only criticism is that most of the walks are in the eastern part of Andalucia. If you're staying further west than Rhonda you won't find much here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for visitors to Nerja, 30 Jun 2001
By A Customer
I have holiday property in Nerja and have had numerous recommendations to buy this book from our guests. It has walks and routes around Nerja to help you explore the beautiful scenery in the area and beyond. So we're now putting a copy in each of our houses for future guests!

Landscapes of Andalucia and the Costa del Sol (Sunflower Landscapes)
We always use the Sunflower Landscapes guides for walking abroad but found some problems with this particular guide.

The biggest is in walk 20 which is high in the mountains and where the clear waymarked path which is naturally followed is neither shown on the map or described in the walk route, whereas the author's path leaves the waymarked path at about the 45min point but is not signposted and is indistinct so is extremely difficult to find. The waymarked path does rejoin the guide route at about the 3h30min point so does make a shorter circular route.

Similarly the Beehive Walk junction at the 34min point is not clear if the rivers are low or dry. There is a large rock bluff cliff adjacent to the river at this point which if the guide mentioned would have allowed the path junction to be found.

The instructions for locating Walk 18 are incorrect in that if you leave the main road when heading West at junction 175 there is no signposting for Istan. You need to leave the main road as soon as Istan is signposted at the earlier junsction.

We also did walks 14, 15 and 19 which were fine except that the start of walk 14 took us a long time to find.

The Sunflower guides are excellent books but we did find this one lacking in directions in walk navigation directions on several walks and to locate the start of some walks.
