4.0 out of 5 stars A gripping tale well told, 10 Jan 2002
The Amazon Synopsis does a fair job of giving the potential reader/listener, an idea of what the story is about. Enigma is indeed an exciting tale involving cryptanalists, spies, mysterious disparitions and the race to save the lives of thousands of sailors threatened by German U-Boats.

Harris does a great job of bringing us back to wartime Britain and the world of Blechley Park. I've been listening to this audio book during my daily commute and I could never wait to get back on the road to discover what would happen next. As a paper edition, I can imagine that it would be hard to put down. Here's, it's hard to switch it off.

The narrator does a great job of bringing us into the story, with just the right amount of voices and accents to add to the experience rather than distract us from it.

Why 4 stars then? Simply because this is an abridged version of the book. Not having read the paper version, I can't judge how much has been cut but this tale is gripping enough that I'd have enjoyed listening to the full text. That being said, I was never confused and didn't notice obvious gaps in the storyline.

I'd never read Robert Harris books before but now I'm convinced to give others a try. You could do worse than discovering the author with this book.
