Product Description

This manual for women gives an in-depth holistic approach to herbal treatments. Over 70 different herbs and their uses are described. A ready reference to diet, nutrition, essential oils, Bach Flower Remedies, and a chart for matching herbs with ailments are also included. Part 1 of the book provides an introduction to herbs which acknowledges the need to treat the underlying cause as well as the symptoms of an ailment, and encourages the recognition and understanding of the body-mind relationship. Part 2 guides the reader from puberty through fertility and motherhood, to the menopause and the later years. It describes herbal treatments that heal and relieve mental and physical problems associated with the natural cycle of hormone levels in women. Part 3 provides herbal remedies for many common ailments, from treatments that alleviate gynaecological problems to first aid for everyday accidents, as well as a wide range of other uses for the herbs including tips on beauty care and a range of housekeeping ideas

5.0 out of 5 stars A practical guide for healing and empowering book for women, 20 Dec 2001
By A Customer
This is one of the most informative and well-presented works I have seen on the subject of Herbal Medicine. It is beautifully illustrated throughout with colourful photographs and delicate drawings, as well as useful anatomical diagrams.

The book is divided into three parts, starting with an overview of herbal lore, the chemistry of herbs, preparation and essential oils. It proceeds with the role that women play in society and examines their own special needs.

The second part deals with "the seasons of womanhood", i.e. puberty, fertility, pregnancy, childbirth, motherhood, menapause and the later years. This section explores attitudes around these topics and ultimately celebrates each phase of a woman's life.

Part three explores practical self-help ideas using nature's bounty for First Aid, Healing, Beauty and Culinary purposes. Finally, there is a useful chart depicting ailments and indicated herbs.

Altogether, an empowering book for women.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reference Book, 20 Oct 2007
This book offers advice, that is very easy to understand. It is a great reference book, and Ms McIntyre, breaks things down in a easy to read format.
