5.0 out of 5 stars The only book you will need on the subject, 17 Dec 2007
By V. Vaughan (London, UK) - See all my reviews

Having recently been diagnosed with Osteoporosis unexpectedly in my 30s I was desperate for information on the subject and rushed out and bought a number of books. I wanted one that didnt feel as though it was aimed solely at post menopausal women as many are (this book is perfect no matter what age you are). This was by far the best and most informative of all the books I have looked at. It is really clear and well written and the chapters on medication and supplements are really fantastic. I would recommend this book to anybody wishing to inform themselves about Osteoporosis no matter what age you are, it gives you all the information you could possibly need to live with, manage and improve the condition in a very readable format.

2.0 out of 5 stars Predictable!, 24 April 2009

This book adds nothing to the knowledge of Osteoporosis and still reinforces stereotypes of it only affects post hormonal women but says its getting more of an issue.

It misses the point - Osteoporosis does affect people MEN and women in their 30's and younger. and omits to mention the BEST check to osteoporosis are dentists who if they mention bone loss - its NOT due to lack of flossing in the under 60"S it is a precursor to osteoporosis!

I am a Man who got osteoporosis in my 30's and all I remember is my dentist telling me off for not flossing as I had bone loss (I was more than he did) - had stereotypes been washed away and more awareness given on i then many more can be picked up before it becomes and issue.

This book simply reinforces stereotypes and suggests some 'trendy' reasons why its becoming more widespread but omits that its getting Men and much younger people too!

1.0 out of 5 stars out of date, 4 Feb 2009
By Mme Josephine Mei (Grenoble, France) - See all my reviews

After being diagnosed with osteoporosis recently I bought this book without considering all the changes that have taken place since 2005. I was disappointed to find 'advertising' for the author's clinics, multiple recommendations for vitamin supplements after tests that could be arranged through these clinics and (understandably) references to biphosphonates which are no longer prescribed for osteoporisis here in France.

I don't think this book is relevant in 2009. A disappointing purchase.
