Product Description

Review

If anyone can make cabbage and beetroot glamorous, its Gayler, executive chef of London's five-star Lanesborough Hotel. With the help of photographer Gus Filgate, once-humble vegetables take a starring role in this collection of recipes from around the world - although fish takes a supporting role in some dishes. Potatoes are enrobed in sensuous warm pesto, aubergines scented with coconut and spiced with chilli, baby turnips glisten with a cider glaze. Fabulous ideas for turning the side order into the main event. (Kirkus UK)

spectacular... Gayler is brilliantly original. A fascinating book. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Constantly inspirational!, 20 Mar 2002

Paul Gayler's book, while not entirely vegetarian, certainly lets the vegetables take the limelight. Every recipe I have cooked from this book has turned out delicious results, and the photographs and descriptions make you want to try them all. And when you don't want to follow a recipe, the combinations of flavours suggested by the recipes are inspriational, and the Chef's tips help you to make adaptations. The results of each recipe will make you smug with satisfaction, yet they are all quite simple to prepare, with any unusual techniques or methods being explained well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yummy!, 4 Aug 2003

No longer boring boiled veg for me! This cookbook dedicated entirely to the lovely vegetable opens up whole new avenues for cooking. In short - you will never find yourself sitting down to a boring meat-and-two-veg meal again - and perhaps even the kids might be persuaded to eat their greens! Top marks for some top vegetable recipies.
