4.0 out of 5 stars A wide-ranging review of Kirby's work, 29 Oct 2000
By A Customer
A large format book, Cosmic Cornucopia rambles back and forth over Kirby's career as a fantasy artists. The concentration is, almost inevitably, on his "discworld" work, a style of artisty which has become almost as popular as the discworld novels themselves (well, I can hope, can't I?). Naturally there are brief details of Kirby's life and times. More unusually, it also covers his other, non-discworld, works, from an entracing portrait of Hitchcock to his work on book covers for authors such as Ray Bradbury and Edgar Rice Burroughs. The pictures are thoughtfully presented and accompanied by lovingly prepared notes, although at times the quality of the art reproduction leaves a little to be desired. A Kirby cover is of course a sort after prize for any publication in comic fantasy. This one deserves the accolade.
