4.0 out of 5 stars A detailed account of the Guadalcanal campaign, 2 Jul 2007

Recommended. It goes into detail about the campaign between the 1st Marine Division and the Japanese Army and you get a very good feel for the campaign and its high points as well as references to how the strategic events of the Pacific Theater effected its outcome. There are plenty of maps in a simplistic and clear style and also plenty of photographs. Easily among the best Osprey books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Warmly recommended, although just like an introduction, 15 Jul 2007
By Maciej K. "Darth Maciek" (Belgium) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
Guadalcanal was an incredibly dramatic campaign fought in air, on the sea and of course on the island itself. This book, for obvious reason of space (Osprey Campaign are only 96 pages long) concentrates on land campaign - and it makes it very well. Definitely one of the best Osprey ever. Well written, clear, interesting, with good illustrations and great maps. A treasure. No colour plates (they appeared later in these series) but it is a blessing in a way - when I think that Howard Gerrard could do to Guadalcanal the same thing that he did to some recent titles (like Crete 1941), I prefer that there is no plates.
